Port Allen- On June 19, 2026 at Noon, the West Baton Rouge Museum will host a lunchtime in honor of Juneteenth, recognizing the legacy and contributions of A. Ralph Slaughter, I presented by his son, Dr. Ralph Slaughter.

A Ralph Slaughter, I was a transformative leader whose work helped shape education and economic empowerment in West Baton Rouge Parish. He served as Superintendent of Colored Schools, where he played a critical role in advancing educational opportunities for Black students during segregation. Beyond education, he was a visionary community builder – helping to establish one of the first credit unions in the state of Louisiana, expanding access to financial resources and economic mobility for African American residents. A committed Civil Rights pioneer and advocate for education, his legacy reflects a lifelong dedication to uplifting his community through knowledge, access, and institutional progress.

His son, Dr Ralph Slaughter, is a nationally recognized Masonic and civic leader leader, serving as Grand Master of the Prince Hall Masons of Louisiana and Sovereign Grand Commander of the United Supreme Council in Washington, DC. A former President of the Southern University System and Louisiana Revenue Secretary, he hold advanced degrees in accounting, public administration, and public policy. Listed among Ebony’s most influential African leaders, he is widely honored for leadership in education, finance, and public service.
