Awkward Family Photos at the West Baton Rouge Museum

Port Allen – The West Baton Rouge will be hosting the national traveling exhibit Awkward Family Photos from June 6 – August 9, 2026. The idea for Awkward Family Photos was started in 2009 when Mike Bender saw one of his own family photos framed and hung in his parents house. His childhood friend and writing partner, Doug Chernack, acknowledged that he too had similar family photos. They created a website to collect from the public, and the concept took off and became a world-wide phenomenon. The exhibit of photographs will hopefully provide a place for people for people to take comfort in the fact that their family is not alone in experiencing the perfectly imperfect moments that come with the family photograph experience. The exhibit includes over two hundred classic Awkward Family Photos framed in vintage, era-appropriate frames, and hilarious ‘behind the awkwardness’ stories. Plus, there will even be a “selfie station” for visitors to celebrate their own awkwardness with family and friends!
