Historical Happy Hour

Historical Happy Hour will open with a brief interview and musical set with BreAura followed by a performance by the Teena May Trio Band. The second set begins with a brief introduction highlighting the history and story of New Orleans’ upcoming BlackAmericana Fest of which Teena May is co-founder.  BlackAmericana Fest is a platform that celebrates the musical heritage, legacy and contributions of Black artists who make Americana, Country and Folk music in New Orleans and Mississippi River Delta region.

From the rich musical legacy of Muscle Shoals, Alabama to the soulful culture of South Louisiana, BreAura’s music honors the traditions that shaped her while carving a path all her own. Blending gospel roots, jazz, R&B, and Americana, she channels her passion for storytelling through music. Her journey has taken her from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, New York to New Orleans, and from neighborhood stages to audiences in 86 countries. Through these experiences, BreAura has developed a gift for connecting with listeners on a deeply personal level while continuing to push the boundaries of her musical expression.

Teena May is based in New Orleans. Her band performs original acoustic guitar-led stories alongside fiddle, upright bass and percussion. Teena May has been writing songs for over 20 years, and her band’s new single “Country Night” is out now, off the upcoming EP “The Riches”, which will be released Sept 25, 2026 during BlackAmericana Fest. Her full-length album “Bones” will be released Spring 2027.

This event is FREE and open to the public. All are invited to bring lawn chairs and refreshments to enjoy the evening’s entertainment that will take place from the museum’s Juke Joint Front Porch Stage
