Port Allen Lock Heritage Trail Site - West Baton Rouge Louisiana

As part of the Atchafalaya Water Heritage Trail, the Intracoastal Bridge Boat Launch, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at Hwy. 1, is an important segment of waterways that stretches for more than 1,300 miles along the entire coast of the Gulf of Mexico from Apalachicola, Fla., to Brownsville, Texas. The Port Allen Lock connects the waterway and Gulf of Mexico to the Port of Greater Baton Rouge and other points north along the Mississippi River, shortening the distance for boat traffic by about 120 miles.

Take exit 153 and follow signs toward Port of Greater Baton Rouge. Turn right at boat launch parking lot (just before road goes under Hwy. 1 bridge and continues toward Port)
