Bergeron’s opened in Port Allen in 2002 and is run by Craig “Moonie” Bergeron and his wife Angela. What began as a small West Baton Rouge meat market has grown into a Louisiana name, with affiliated stores around the state, but Port Allen is where it started, and it is still the original.
The approach has not changed: homemade meals, Louisiana Certified meats, and house spice blends and rubs. Nearly everything is touched by smoke, from the boudin and sausage to the chicken patties that regulars come back for. It is a working boucherie, part restaurant counter, part butcher’s case, and both halves are worth your time.
Bergeron’s is really two stops in one, so it helps to know what you are after before you walk in.

Bergeron’s sits on Highway 415 in Port Allen, minutes from Baton Rouge across the Mississippi River and an easy detour off Interstate 10. Opening at 7 a.m. on weekdays makes it a genuine early stop; boudin is a breakfast food in this part of Louisiana, and the freezer section means you can take Cajun meats home with you rather than only eating them here.
